SFSU

For this semester, I am taking two classes at San Francisco State University, Databases and Bioinformatics, as I am doing my internship. It is slightly interesting to see how a different campus operates, such as student web services for one. SFSU has a online system called iLearn for courses to post material and for students to submit assignments similar to the Classes v2 system, which we use.

The campus is small and quite nice, tough the architecture isn't too interesting. There is a lot of grassy field, which we don't have as much. The bookstore is somewhat bigger than ours, and was better stocked in art supplies and stationery. What is also interesting is that there is this terrace on top of the Cesar Chavez Student Center that you could go up and see a view of the whole campus. Today, as it commonly happens in San Francisco, we had a dense fog sitting around.

From the top of the terrace.

One thing the bookstore here has that we don't have is an electronics section that sells actual computers. I was browsing around the Apple products and decided to play around with the iPads. However, when I flipped through the home screens, I noticed something interesting.

What's wrong with this picture?
Apparently someone jailbroke all of the iPads they had on display because the Cydia icon was proudly showing itself on all three of them. For this one, they went so far as to get Installous on the device too. My guess is they used the PDF exploit through the site JailbreakMe.com, which lets you jailbreak iOS without plugging the device into a computer first. Apple supposedly fixed this security hole in iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone/iTouch and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad, but I'm not sure if the iPads in the store were updated. I told the person working in the electronics department who thanked me for the information.

Funny thing is, I later tweeted the fact that someone jailbroke all the iPads at the SFSU bookstore. Shortly after, I found that @SFSUBookstore started following me.

I have class in the same room for both of my classes.

I have both of my classes in Robert A. Thornton Hall, where apparently the Physics, Astronomy, and Computer Science departments reside. Interestingly, I have both classes in the same room. I'm fine with that, but wish the wireless network in the room worked properly for me. Sometimes, I'd get sporadic connections with the main SFSU wi-fi network, but for now am not longer able to get on the router that is actually in the room. I'll try to find out what's causing it later.
